Seems like we never have enough time at the end of a class series to properly
cover how to end a dance. We only get enough time to get through the basic dip. So, for those of you who know how to do your basic dip, this class is for you! And if you don’t know your basic dip, we will be reviewing that, too.
Two hours of dips, dip variations & fancy drops!
Add some sizzle to your dance!
Dips are not just for the end of a dance any more! These are easy to do tricks that can add a moment of “WOW!” into the middle of any dance. Especially useful at breaks or bridges and any place else that the music tells you.
Not just for swing dancing either! These dips & tricks can be inserted into almost any dance style to add that extra-special sparkle. From Salsa to Lindy, Blues, ECS, WCS, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha and most other Latin Ballroom Dances, these techniques can be adapted to most any dance style.
Footwork doesn’t matter anymore. These techniques start as the Follow comes out of a turn. No matter what dance style footwork got you through the turn, you can abandon all your footwork once the dip begins. Instead you will be
concentrating on a whole new set of foot placements unique to the dip and independent of dance form. The dip footwork allows proper weight distribution and leverage. With the right leverage you can achieve some amazing control.
Safety First! We will concentrate on how to do these fancy dips without anyone throwing out a back, or the partnership ending up on the dance floor in a heap of embarrassment and skinned elbows. This also applies to the Follows. We will show the Follows how to distribute their weight through the dip and how to use leverage against the Lead so he not only won’t, but can’t drop you, even in the deepest of dips. And we will show the Follows how they can control how deep they allow the Lead to dip them.
Follow Styling. We will also cover Follow Styling – Follows will learn what they can do with their arms, legs, toes, etc. for that maximum dazzle. And a little Lead styling, too.
Some of what is covered:
Basic Dip & variations
Side Dip & Boleo variation
Pivot Dip
Salsa & Tango Dips
Tunnel Dip
Baby Doll Drop & Spin out variation
Side Drop & Step Over variation
I’m just a beginner. Can I take this class? Maybe. While beginners are welcome, this class is not the place for someone who has never danced at all. You need to have at least some basic understanding of lead & follow, rhythm, frame and dance movement. And you need to know how to do an underarm or inside turn. Most beginning dancers who have had at least one series of lessons in some form of dance will have these basics. If you’ve never done a lot of different styles of dips, then it do
esn’t matter if you are a beginning dancer or advanced, it’s all going to be new.
